this is the page where i'll talk about movies.

look what you've gone done....
welcome oblivion....
did it fix what was wrong inside?
are you less than...?

note...I'm in no way a movie critic, nor do i have a gauge of what is considered a "good movie" or not...this is all just my opinion by itself..! (you will see me restating this often, lol...)

7/21/23...Queen of the Damned...
Released in February of 2002, Directed by Michael Rymer, Sort of a sequel to Interview with the vampire (1994) Based on the books "The Vampire Lestat" (1985) and "Queen of the Damned" (1988) both by Anne Rice.

Okay goddamn where do i start with this movie. It's not that good.. which sucks, because its a sequel to one of my favorite movies ever, and it has a fucking killer soundtrack. I said in a blog that nu metal is like, cursed to be in bad movies, and I think that still stands in this case...
I watched this movie for the first time yesterday, and i rewatched it again last night with my mom, and her and i both agree that they had way too many ideas for this movie, but none of them were really executed well...Apparently Anne Rice even said that because of this movie she wouldnt have anymore of her books adapted, lol...
With this review im mainly going to talk about the music-oriented parts of the movie, since its like, almost the only reason why i watched it, and its really what im better at talking about.

Richard Gibbs(film composer who was in oingo boingo for a short time. he's known for working on doctor dolittle, battlestar galactica, 10 things i hate about you, and of course our beloved queen of the damned...) and Jonathan Davis were in charge of the soundtrack. According to Metal hammer, Richard tagged along for KoRn's tour they were doing at the time (i would tell you which one, but they dont say in the article...) and the pair worked on eight songs for the movie, which were performed by JD on vocals, Munky and Head on guitar, Bizkit's Sam Rivers on bass, and the violinist S. Shankar, who was mostly known for his work on the soundtrack for the 1988 film The Temptation of Christ. Out of the eight made, the director chose five to be in the actual movie.
okay so, if youve seen the movie, and youre just now listening to the soundtrack by itself, you might be confused, because the thing with it is, JD isnt actually IN any of the songs on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack album. This was because the label he was with at the time wasnt allowing his voice to be on the soundtrack for some fucking reason. His voice could be in the movie, but there was an issue with the actual songs they recorded being on the soundtrack, which is weird and stupid, obviously...
so for the official released soundtrack, they ended up having vocals by different metal vocalists. David Draiman, Chester Bennington, Wayne Static, and ...... Umm he who will not be named (marilyn manson)
if im being honest, these versions are also pretty good, so im not complaining (except for MM i am complaining about that) but it still sucks to not have the original versions from any official sources. The closest thing you can get is this playlist.
in the video above, JD and the director both talk about how music was the first thing they focused on when they were making the movie, so it kind of set the feel for the whole thing. they said they even did music before casting, which leads me to wonder why they chose Stuart Townsend to play Lestat, of all actors... I'm not saying i can think of anyone better, because i dont know of enough actors to think of anyone better in the first place, but you know. If you haven't seen it, The main character, Lestat, is in a rock band which he does vocals for. All of his singing that you can see and hear is dubbed by Jonathan Davis, so basically Lestat's singing voice is just JD's. Jonathan Davis's voice does NOT fit Stuart Townsend at all. I think Jay Gordon's (one of the vocalists that redid a song for the official QOTD soundtrack) voice would have fit him a lot more, but obviously,i wouldn't trade Jay for JD when it comes to the songwriting in this movie...
something to mention before i end this review, JD has a cameo in this movie! he plays a ticket scalper, which is funny, because hes basically scalping tickets for his own show, since Lestat and him have the same singing voice. (Im not going to talk about MM's cameo you cant make me)
So basically in summary, this movie was kinda shit. The soundtrack is one of the only redeeming qualities, other than you know. hot vampires or whatever. i can only hope that maybe the nu metal revival will influence a better nu-oriented movie to come out in modern times... but alas, for now we can only hope.
